Hannah –
This is an easy wearing casual dress that any kid will be happy putting on top of their favorite top. The oversized nature of it probably means a top will be wanted underneath. My girl loved the pockets and was happy bouncing around wearing it.
The construction while being very different to traditional construction actually looks very good and makes for a lovely seam on the inside, I did not find any raised surfaces, so if your child finds seams itchy or otherwise uncomfortable then this should work. More time does go into the construction process but it is worth it. It gave me very good practice in doing parallel stitching, I used rainbow thread to make it pop. The many parts of the dress allows you to mix and choose patterns.
One thing I would say is that it is very oversized, so be prepared and don’t be tempted to size up like I did! Sizes are only in ages, but for this pattern that would not matter. I made an age 5 here, my daughter is a fairly average 4 and half.
I would like to try and make this in a lighter cotton jersey for a better drape. I used scuba/crepe which is more structured but gives a nice shape in a twirl!
